Unique role and place of female community health volunteers in maternal health services in Nepal

Sarita Panday is studying for a PhD at the School of Health and Related Research. Her PhD title is “Unique role and place of female community health volunteers in maternal health services in Nepal”. Using a qualitative methodology Sarita has explored the perceptions of female community health volunteers, and their beneficiaries (women), including health workers, in maternal health service delivery in two villages in Nepal. Sarita is working under supervision of Prof Paul Bissell, Prof Edwin van Teijlingen and Prof Padam Simkhada.

In this interesting and insightful article, Sarita explains how she interviewed her participants while dealing with challenges such as travelling to the data collection sites and using local guides to access to participants. Sarita also reflects on her own positionality and the management techniques she employed during the data collection.
